Investing in your companies branding and design is a big step and I understand if this is something you have never done before it is both exciting yet daunting. My aim is to make the process as transparent, simplified, and enjoyable as possible. No matter how big or small the project is I have worked to refine my process for years to give both me and you a clear path towards a successful outcome. Below is a more in-depth look into the behind the scenes of what makes up a design project.
1. Pre-production
After receiving a project inquiry, I review it to see if the project could be a potential fit. From there, we will set up a free discovery call where I can learn all about you, your business, and your project. We will also discuss potential solutions to your unique situation, and I can help guide you to set up a detailed and targeted set of deliverables for maximum impact if we decide to work together.
If everything is looking good, I will send you a project proposal highlighting everything we discussed — project deliverables, timeline, and pricing — that is tailored specifically to you and your business.
Lastly, upon confirmation to start the project, I will transfer this information into a contract and send the invoice along with it. I typically ask for 50% to be paid upfront and the remaining 50% on completion. Once this is completed, the project can officially begin!
For larger projects, I will send you a link to a project portal hosted by Notion. This will be an all-in-one workspace for your project, where you can view project status, access all documents, and communicate with me about your project.
2. Research & Moodboard
What makes each design truly impactful is the foundation and research behind it. Before we start creating any final designs, I will dive deep into understanding your company, its values, and how we can connect this to your target audience. Visually, we will put together a mood board to see what direction we should pursue with the upcoming designs.
This stage is a collaborative process where we will share ideas and references with each other. Once the direction is established, you will be asked to sign off on the mood board, and we can move on to putting these ideas to paper!
3. Sketching
We are now making progress in materializing designs! Based on all of our previous project direction, I will start sketching together ideas. This stage is all about getting ideas in front of me to start looking at potential unique compositions and eliminating ones that aren’t working.
After extensive exploration into different design ideas, I will gather all of the best ones that will make it onto the next round of finalizing the designs.
Sketching usually takes place either with paper and pencil or on the iPad using a program called Procreate, which allows me to digitally draw rough sketches and edit with more control.
4. Finalization & Presentation
After all of the previous steps are completed, I will turn all of these ideas and sketches into finished, ready-to-use designs. All designs will be taken into the Adobe Suite (app dependent on project type) to be perfected and prepared for delivery.
All of the work will be showcased in a presentation accompanied by a call or video where I will walk you through the final results, decision-making, and any other information I find relevant to share.
From here, you will have a chance to provide any feedback and thoughts. Each project will come with an agreed-upon number of revisions — the standard is around three. Any additional revisions that cannot be resolved within those rounds can be extended for an additional fee per revision round.
Once you are happy with the final result, I will prepare all of the files and save them in an organized and easy-to-use folder. I will also answer any questions about usage you might have.
5. Completion & Off-boarding
Once the final designs are signed off you will be asked to pay the remaining 50% of the invoice. I will then send you all of the finished worked and off-board you from the project portal. There will be a field provided that you can leave any feedback you have.
You are now ready to put those designs to use!!
